From zero customers in 1972, to winning the National Coffee Service Association Silver Service Industry Award for Best Office Coffee Service in the USA in 1995... just 23 years for Associated Services to become an "overnight success".
Here's how it all began...
Hal had been in vending all his life. His father, Harold A. Steuber, was in the vending and gum ball business. After many years his company became one of the original founders of Servomation. Hal worked in the family business while growing up in Long Beach. Sports have always been a big part of Hal's life, he played football and rugby while attending Stanford University. Diane received her teaching degree from California State College in San Jose. While Hal attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Diane taught school in Cupertino.
In 1972, after working the Vending Industry for 9 years Hal decided to venture on his own. Office Coffee Break Service was still in its infancy when Hal & Diane started Associated Services. They had a lot of determination and ambition, and they were willing to work hard to make a successful company. Sales people were hired, with Hal doing all the purchasing, deliveries, accounting, installations, etc. The first delivery vehicle was an old beige station wagon. Diane "volunteered" part-time talking with customers and doing accounts receivable. The children, Tom & April, worked at the company on weekends and vacations cleaning bowls, packing coffee and products, and helping in billing and accounting. Tom & April both attended Stanford University. Tom went on the Northwestern's Kellogg Business School and worked for Andersen Consulting before coming to work for Associated Services in 1987. April attended the Manhattan School of Music for a Masters in Vocal Performance.
| As the years went by, Hal, Diane, & Tom saw the desire for Gourmet Coffees... so they developed fabulous private label coffees to please their growing customer list. As Starbucks grew into the San Francisco Bay in 1993, they were pleased to be the exclusive Office Coffee Service Supplier for them in Northern California. In 1997 Flavia, the Mars (M & M) Single-Cup Brewer selected Associated Services to represent them in Northern California - another great system for Associated's Customers. In 1998 Tully's asked Associated Services to represent them in offices.
In 2004 Peet's Coffee & Tea became a part of the Associated Services great variety of coffees. We truly have a taste and price for everyone!!! |

Hal, Diane, Tom, and their fine staff are very pleased to be associated with so many outstanding companies like Superior, Nestles, Hansen, McLaughlin, Keystone, Procter & Gamble, Bigelow, Celestial Seasonings, Carnation, Sweet n' Low, Equal, Dart Cups, C&H Sugar, Lipton Teas & Soups, Land O' Lakes, Newco, Bloomfield, Oasis, Everpure, and more. These companies bring great products and services to the customers of Associated Services.
In 1992 Associated Services decided to start bottling water. Water Purification systems had always been a part of the services offered to customers, so they knew water. But more requests kept coming for bottled water so Associated Services started Alta Bottled Waters. Now both Water Purification Systems and Bottled Waters are available to offices from one supplier.
Hal, Diane, & Tom say, "Our ultimate goal is for our customers to be more than satisfied with the convenient services they receive from being with Associated Services. We hope you who are reading this will continue being a wonderful customer, or become a new wonderful customer. Associated Services will always be a leader in Office Coffee Services... there is always something new and exciting going on in coffee & related products. We welcome you all, and look forward to a long and rewarding association with you." |
